About Andrew Devenney

I'm somewhat embarrassed even to have a page like this on the blog.  I mean, who in the hell am I, in the grand scheme of things?  It's not like I can start out with "Andrew D. Devenney is the award winning author of Spigots Rust in the Rain and The Naked Dancer's Guide to Plantar Fasciitis...."  The pretension appalls me a little, but the truth of the matter is that I needed another page to balance out the navbar above.  And thus you get stuck looking at this, which I will generally not take very seriously.  Onward!!

Born and raised in Marshall, Michigan, Dr. Andrew D. Devenney is a university-trained historian specializing in modern British and European history, specifically the 20th century, as well as the topics of nationalism and national identity; urban and spatial history; and the process of European integration.

Married with spawn that looks eerily just like him at that age, Dr. Devenney currently resides in scintillating Mount Pleasant, Michigan while working in rough and ready Allendale, Michigan, where he hopes he'll never end up driving into the Grand River by accident one foggy day.  Thus, he spends far too much of his time in a car.  When not hurtling down state highways recreating car chases from Bullit or The Road Warrior, Dr. Devenney teaches some students about some stuff, bending classroom technology to his will whenever possible.

An avid consumer of science fiction and fantasy literature in all media, Dr. Devenney is also a big fan of following US and European politics as spectator sports; hunting the internet for obscure techno/electronica downloads; and developing an unhealthy interest in the goings-on of the English Premier League.  He also enjoys long walks on the beach; petting kittens; and torturing students over their use of passive voice sentence construction.  And someday, when he's all grown up, Dr. Devenney hopes to be either a fireman or an astronaut.
